SAN GABRIEL ACADEMY CHORALE
The San Gabriel Academy Chorale is a chamber choir class with auditioned singers that performs regularly in the different constituent churches of the school. Members hone their skills in choral singing by mastering vocal technique, ensemble singing, and musicianship, applying them to various choral literature. Aside from church performances, the SGA Chorale holds two to three concerts every year and goes on an annual music tour, visiting churches and schools, proclaiming the word of God through choral music.
In 2024, the Chorale, along with the SGA Orchestra, went on a 9-day Trip to Italy, performing three concerts in Rome, Torre Pellice, and Trichiana, organized by the Italian Association of Choirs, ASAC Veneto. In February of this year, the Chorale was a guest performer for Ryan Cayabyab Singers Concert in Pasadena, CA.
SGA Chorale has worked with prominent conductors, musicians, and singers such as Grant Gershon for LA Master Chorale’s High Choir School Festival, Ryan Cayabyab (Philippine National Artist for Music), Ariel Quintana, Larnelle Harris, Jaymie Jorge, and Sam Ocampo. The Chorale has also put on and participated in school productions of broadway musicals such as Sound of Music, Lion King, Prince of Egypt, as well as a sacred opera, The Queen of Persia. Last year, SGA Chorale commissioned Your God Will Be My God: An Oratorio about the Story of Ruth, by Dr. August Champlin. It premiered on May 19, 2024.
