SKERRIES SEA SHARPS

Join the Skerries Sea Sharps for a night down memory lane as we celebrate 15 wonderful years of song, friendship, and community. This special performance will showcase some of our proudest moments and most beloved pieces from over the years—a heartfelt tribute to the music and memories that have shaped our journey.

Founded in October 2010 by five local women, the Skerries Sea Sharps is a vibrant choir based in the bustling fishing village of Skerries, North County Dublin. Embracing the motto “sing yourself out of the blues,” the choir has been spreading joy through music for over a decade. Over the years, the choir was shaped and inspired by a series of talented musical directors. Each brought their own distinctive style and energy, enriching the choir’s repertoire and instilling a shared love of singing.

Their diverse approaches helped foster a fun, inclusive environment where members could explore music in multiple languages and genres. The choir rehearses weekly at the local community centre and performs regularly throughout the year at a wide range of events and venues.

They have proudly competed at national choral festivals across the country, including Castlebar, New Ross, Limerick, and Navan. Most recently, in October 2024, the Sea Sharps took part in the City of Derry International Choral Festival, a highlight in their performance calendar. The choir has also entered RTÉ Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas competition, showcasing their festive spirit to a national audience.

The Skerries Sea Sharps have been delighted to perform at the launch of the Fingal Festival of Voices and are proud to sing regularly with Forget Me Knots, a group supporting those affected by dementia. They’ve also taken to the stage with Risky Business at The Lark Concert Hall in Balbriggan.

Members look forward to the festivals, workshops, and competitions that the choir takes part in each year. These events are not only a great source of fun and connection but also drive the choir’s ongoing growth and development. It’s always rewarding to see hard work pay off, especially when met with encouraging feedback from judges and audiences alike.

A standout moment in the choir’s journey came in 2013, when they had the honour of performing for Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D. Higgins, at the opening of a special memorial in Skerries dedicated to those lost at sea—an occasion that remains a cherished memory for all involved.
